On one unassuming August day, the sticky summer air of New Orleans starts to give way—just a bit—to cooler breezes. The familiar sound of streetcars clattering down St. Charles is now joined by the chatter of students making their way back to campus. The air is filled with joyous return and the oak trees along Audubon Park seem to stretch a little taller, ready to shade another wave of hammock loungers. Suddenly, you find yourself on a campus full of life, and a whole lot of Tulane green. It’s official: fall has arrived in the Crescent City, and the new semester is in full swing!

The campus is already buzzing as we have welcomed the incredible Tulane University Class of 2028. This year’s incoming first-year students are bringing a wave of diversity, talent, and enthusiasm like never before. Let’s dive into some of the stats and fun facts that make this class truly one for the books!

A Class Like No Other

With over 1,850 eager students ready to call Tulane home, we’re also thrilled to be joined by 150+ Spring Scholars and 150+ transfer students. These new members of our community are bringing fresh perspectives and a wealth of experiences that will enrich our vibrant campus life.

Coast to Coast and Beyond

Get this: 74% of our students come from more than 500 miles away! Our new Tulanians hail from 49 US states and territories, and right here in Louisiana, 30 parishes are proudly represented. From sea to shining sea, we’ve got Tulane covered.

Going Global

Our international presence is stronger than ever, with 115+ students from 55+ countries joining us this year, compared to 49 countries last year. And for the first time ever, India tops the list as the most represented country, followed closely by Vietnam, China, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Canada, and Italy. Talk about a global community!

A Rich Mosaic

This year’s class is a vibrant tapestry of backgrounds and experiences:

53% of students are from public or charter schools, while 46% are from private or independent schools.

14% are first-generation college students, blazing new trails for their families.

28% of our incoming class are students of color from the US, and 11% identify as LGBTQ+.

Academic Excellence

The Class of 2028 boasts an impressive academic profile with an average GPA of 3.71, SAT score of 1461, and ACT score of 33. Interestingly, 64% of students chose the test-optional route, showcasing a diverse array of talents and strengths beyond standardized tests.
