Early Action decisions drop on December 23, 2024, at 11 AM Central Time, and if you find yourself deferred, don’t worry—your Tulane journey isn’t over yet!

If you’re reading this and your Early Action decision says “deferred,” we know this may not be the news you hoped for—but it’s not the end of the road! Being deferred means we’re still considering your application as we review the Regular Decision pool. Here’s what you need to know and the steps you can take:

What Does Being Deferred Mean?

As we reviewed our way through a highly competitive Early Action round your application stood out, but we’d like more time to evaluate it within the broader applicant pool. While this can feel slightly disappointing, think of it as an invitation to stay in the conversation rather than a final decision.

What Are Your Next Steps?

  1. Express Continued Interest
If Tulane remains a top choice, let us know! Complete the form in your Green Wave Portal to share your enthusiasm or indicate if you’re interested in our Spring Scholars program.
  2. Submit Additional Materials (Optional)
While not required, you may send an updated grade report, new activities or achievements, or a letter of continued interest to further highlight your accomplishments and passion for Tulane.
  3. Consider Switching to Early Decision II
If Tulane is now your top choice and you’re ready to commit, you have the option to switch to Early Decision II by January 15th. Along the same lines as Early Decision I, this is a binding agreement, meaning if admitted in the Early Decision II round, you’ll withdraw all other college applications and enroll at Tulane.

A Tulane Departure

While we would hate to see you go, we understand this is a fluid time and you’re receiving decisions from many colleges and universities. If you have decided to attend one of those other opportunities as opposed to continue along in the process with us here at Tulane, don’t be timid in letting us know! Withdrawing your application helps us know you’re no longer interested and allows us to clearly see our remaining candidate pool.

A Final Note

We understand how challenging this process can be, and we appreciate your continued interest in Tulane. No matter what happens, remember this: being deferred is not a “no.” It’s simply “not yet.” Stay hopeful and keep striving!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you through this process and help in any way we can.
